Configuration of the Trizeps IV WL EEPROM is only needed in special cases.
If advanced settings or wireless testing is required, request the tools from Keith & Koep. The NXP-PCTI-tool will need a special adapter connected to the Trizeps-module.

Delivery state of BGW211

Every BGW211 is tested individually by NXP and gets its own calibration parameters stored in the manufacturer section of the EEPROM. These parameters should be sufficient to operate the module with correct HF-settings. The customer section of the EEPROM is left blank. After testing the Trizeps4 WL, a customer section is burned with minimal settings (MAC-address and default-domain set to ETSI). Delivery of Trizeps4-WL modules can be done with a custom Customer Section.

Changing parameters for a product

The parameters used are calculated by Customer + Manufacturer Section. Many parameters of the Customer Section are deltas to the absolute-values of the Manufacturer Section. Don’t erase the Manufacturer Section (During development a backup of this section is recommended). Normally customers should not deal with most of the HF-parameters. If you have the appropriate measurement equipment, fine-tuning of those parameters is possible.
The only values you should modify (if needed) are the Regulatory Domain Information Element and the Default Domain.

Customer Section

The Customer Section is organized with a list of information-elements. See BGW211 EEPROM Configuration Guide for details.

Usage of the PCTI Tools v1.1

  1. Connect PC with the BGW211 using UART.

  2. Click Connect DUT.

  3. Choose PCTI Firmware with Open (\PCTI_Toolset_1.1\Testware\1.4.2.3\UART\mmc_211.rec ).

  4. Load Firmware with Write.

  5. Go to Tab EEPROM.

With EEPROM Read you may read the Manufacturer or Customer Section. The picture shows the behaviour if the Customer Section was empty.

With File Read you can read an external file (i.e. : PCTI_CustomerSection.txt).

Format of this file:

  • ASCII Text

  • every Byte on a seperate line.

  • 0x before every Hexbyte.

  • 2 bytes of length at the start and 2 bytes of checksum at the end of the EEPROM are omitted.

After loading the file, its content is displayed. With Write you can write this file to EEPROM. Do not overwrite the Manufacturer Section!!!

How to Test

Load PCTI-Firmware and use following forms:

  • TX_CONTINUOUS

  • TX_BURST

After starting the device and loading the PCTI-firmware, the TX-Power value is calculated from the Manufacturer + Customer Section.
After clicking Set Power this power value is used with all following tests ( TX_CONTINUOUS and TX_BURST).
If transmit-power is too high on a specific channel, you might want to use Set Power and redo the test. If you passed the test, change the EEPROM and restart the system. ( To make sure, that the following tests will use the TX-Power value stored at Manufacturer + Customer Section.)

Remember to change the default regulatory domain, if not using FCC!
The TX power limit for OFDM and 11B data rates in the EEPROM are set in dBm.
When using TX_BURST, the first data-rates ( 1-11MBit/s) are for 802.11b and the others (6-54Mbit/s) are for 802.11g (OFDM).
TX_CONTINOUS just outputs simple waveforms to the antenna. Since this is no normal operating condition, no parameters are available in the EEPROM.
